Can I book an 8-seater taxi from Rhu Marina?

Yes. 8-seater vehicles are available as pre-booked private hire for airport runs, ferry connections, group travel and distance journeys from Rhu Marina. Local 8-seater jobs inside the area carry a 100% private-hire uplift on the licensed-taxi tariff because 8-seaters can't be operated as licensed taxis under Argyll & Bute rules — distance 8-seater hires are quoted separately at a fixed fare.

Can I book a taxi to or from Rhu Marina?

Yes. We provide pre-booked taxis to and from Rhu Marina for sailors, visitors and berth holders, as well as local rides to Helensburgh, Rhu and the surrounding villages. Local Rhu Marina bookings are limited to 8 passengers under the local licence conditions.

Do you provide airport transfers from Rhu Marina?

Yes — fixed-fare pre-booked transfers from Rhu Marina to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Prestwick, Manchester and Heathrow airports. Flight tracking is included for inbound arrivals.

How far in advance should I book a Rhu Marina taxi?

For local trips, a few hours' notice is usually enough. For airport transfers and long-distance journeys, 24–48 hours is ideal, and more during peak periods.

What happens if my flight is delayed?

Inbound flights are monitored, so your pickup time is adjusted automatically. You won't pay for waiting time caused by airline delays.

How many passengers can travel from Rhu Marina?

Local Rhu Marina rides are limited to 8 passengers. Distance and cross-country hires can use executive vehicles for up to 8 passengers with full luggage space.

Can you carry sailing kit and luggage?

Yes. We carry sailing bags, cabin luggage and equipment. Confirm the amount of kit when booking so we can allocate the right vehicle, especially for larger crews or bulky gear.

Where exactly do you pick up at Rhu Marina?

Standard pickup is the main marina car park by the office and chandlery. For heavier kit we can pull in at the pontoon gate closest to your berth (A, B, C or D) — just tell us the pontoon letter and berth number when booking so the driver can meet you there.

Can you collect from the Chart Room / marina restaurant?

Yes — the Chart Room forecourt and the Rhu Inn just up the road are both regular pickup points after dinner or drinks. If parking is tight the driver will wait in the marina main car park and confirm by text.

How quickly can you reach Rhu Marina from Helensburgh?

Rhu Marina is about 2.5 miles from central Helensburgh — typical arrival is 5–10 minutes for pre-booked jobs, or 10–20 minutes for same-day requests depending on driver location and traffic on Pier Road.

How much waiting time is included for a crew changeover?

For pre-booked crew moves we include 10 minutes free waiting at the pontoon gate. If you need us to help ferry bags from the boat, book a 'wait & load' slot and we'll allow 20–30 minutes without an extra charge.

Can you handle boat-to-airport transfers with sailing kit?

Yes — regatta weekends and end-of-charter trips to Glasgow, Edinburgh or Prestwick airports are one of our most common Rhu Marina jobs. Confirm the number of sail bags, hold-alls and crew when booking and we'll send an executive vehicle with the right load space.

Ways you can pay

Prepay (held) — We pre-authorise the quoted fare on your card — the money is held, not taken. Our office checks the job for any extras and approves it, and only then is the payment taken. You can pay in your own currency; the fare is settled against its GBP value. When: the estimate is held on your card the moment you book. It is only taken after our office approves the job — usually within a few hours. If the final fare is lower, you are charged the lower amount; anything extra (waiting time, extra stops) is agreed with you first. If verification fails: no money is taken and the hold is released automatically (your bank may show a pending line for a day or two). Your booking stays in place as unpaid — we email and text you a fresh secure payment link, and if it still will not go through you can switch to paying the driver or by bank transfer without losing the booking.
Card after ride — Save your card securely now — we charge the final fare when the driver marks the ride complete, then email your receipt. When: nothing is taken at booking — we only check the card is valid. The final fare is charged after the ride, once the driver marks the journey complete, and a receipt is emailed to you.If verification fails: the card is not saved and nothing is charged. Your booking is not cancelled — we contact you for another card, or you can pay the driver on the day.
Direct Debit — Set up a UK Direct Debit mandate now with your sort code and account number. The final fare is collected from your bank account after the journey — ideal for regular and account travel. Protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee. When: nothing is taken at booking. The final fare is collected from your bank account a few working days after the ride, with advance notice under the Direct Debit Guarantee. If the mandate or a collection fails: your bank rejects it and we email you. The booking stands and we will ask for another payment method — no charge is applied twice.
Bank transfer — We email you our account name, sort code and account number with a payment reference as soon as you book. The payment must be showing in our account before your journey starts — if it hasn't cleared by then, your driver will be told to collect the fare from you instead. When: you pay before the ride. We email our bank details and a reference when you book, and the money must show in our account before pickup.
Pay the driver — Nothing to pay online. Settle directly with your driver at the end of the journey — cash, the card machine in the vehicle, bank transfer, or by phone. When: at the end of the journey. Nothing is taken online — you settle the fare with the driver when you arrive.
Pay by phone — Our office will call you on the number you give us to take payment securely over the phone before pickup. When: before the ride. Our office calls you on the number you give us to take payment before your driver sets off.
On account — Already have an approved account with us? Enter your account reference and the journey is added to your invoice. When: after the ride. The journey is added to your account and settled on your normal invoice terms.

If your bank’s 3-D Secure check fails or is cancelled

Nothing is charged and any hold is released by your bank. Your booking is kept — we email and text you a new secure payment link, and if the card still will not verify you can pay the driver on the day, by bank transfer, or over the phone. We only cancel a job if you ask us to.
